We embed the NSW Child Safe Standards across our organisation through robust recruitment practices, trained educators, secure environments and clear policies that prioritise children’s wellbeing. We also empower children to understand their rights and speak up, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.
Child Safe Culture
- We champion a Child Safe Culture across our organisation through the adoption of the NSW Child Safe Standards
- All employees, including support office team members, have completed mandatory training in Child Protection
- Our Code of Conduct outlines clear expectations around acceptable behaviours and attitudes
- Risk management strategies are adopted at all levels of our organisation, and focus on preventing risks to children
- We are continuously reviewing our approach to Child Safety to ensure we are implementing best practice at all times. Family feedback is encouraged
Child Safe Recruitment
- All employees undergo a rigorous recruitment screening process with a focus on Child Safety
- All employees hold a current valid Working with Children Check
- New employees receive a thorough induction into Young Academics standards and are aware of their child safety responsibilities, including Child Safe reporting obligations.
- Each Young Academics Early learning Centre has their own Child Safety Ambassador who supports and guides the team to uphold Child Safety at all times
Child Safe Environments
- Environments are designed to remove Child safe risks while still supporting a child’s right to privacy
- Our services have access security in place to control who enters the service at any time
- Technology is used in line with our Child Safe policies and procedures
Child Safe Operational Practices
- We have clear policies, procedures and guidelines around appropriate interactions with children
- All Educators undertake a performance review process to ensure compliance with Child Safe expectations
- All complaints are taken seriously and are addressed with the child’s interests being paramount
Child Safety Informed Children
- Our services champion and implement the 52 articles of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child
- Children are taught Protective Behaviours to provide them with a voice about their own bodies and what their rights are
- Children are consulted in decisions that affect them and are provided with techniques to support them to advocate for themselves
