At-home fun: Air-dry clay

Youngacademics, 12 Aug 2021

Giving children different mediums to play can entice their interests and curiosity. Modelling clay is a safe, simple and fun way for a hands-on activity, and by having this end product, children can revisit their creation to mould new items each time. In addition, this form of play helps develop interpretative skills, while providing children an avenue to express themselves in new ways.

You'll need:

  • 2 cups of baking soda

  • 1 cup of cornflour

  • 1 1/4 cups of water

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients into a pot over medium heat

  2. Stir the mixture almost constantly, until it thickens and becomes the consistency of whipped mashed potatoes

  3. Let the mixture cool down and then knead until smooth and no longer sticky

  4. Now, start getting creative and mould away!

We can't wait to see what cool models you come up with. Don't forget to share your creations on social media and tag #youngacademics.
