The Benefits of Music and Movement in Early Learning

music movement early learning benefits

From clapping games and nursery rhymes to dance and playful action songs, music and movement are an essential part of a child’s early learning journey. At Young Academics Early Learning Centres, we know that children learn best when their whole body and mind are engaged and music provides the perfect bridge between fun and foundational development.

That’s why we’re proud to have a partnership inspired by The Wiggles, Australia’s much-loved children’s entertainers. Through this connection, we bring even more music, rhythm, and movement into our programs, helping children learn, grow, and thrive in joyful and meaningful ways.

Boosting Brain Development

Research shows that music stimulates multiple areas of the brain at once. Singing, clapping, and dancing to music strengthens memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. By moving in time with rhythm, children also develop early maths concepts such as patterns and sequencing.

Supporting Language and Communication

Songs and rhymes introduce children to new vocabulary, repetition, and sound patterns. Movement activities paired with lyrics reinforce understanding, making it easier for children to grasp language concepts. Music also encourages confidence in self-expression, whether through singing aloud, making up their own songs, or moving freely to music.

Encouraging Physical Development

Music naturally inspires movement. Whether it’s stomping feet, twirling arms, or tapping instruments, children build fine and gross motor skills while having fun. These movements improve coordination, balance, and spatial awareness, laying the foundation for healthy physical development.

Building Social and Emotional Skills

Music is a universal language that brings people together. Group singing, dancing, or playing instruments teaches children cooperation, turn-taking, and empathy. At the same time, music is a powerful tool for emotional regulation, helping children express joy, calm down, or release energy in positive ways.

Making Learning Fun and Memorable

Children learn best when they’re engaged and having fun. Music and movement transform learning into a joyful experience. Whether they’re remembering a new song, performing a dance sequence, or simply wiggling along with friends, children are developing skills that will benefit them for years to come.

Our Partnership Inspired by The Wiggles

At Young Academics, we’ve partnered with the world’s most beloved children’s group, The Wiggles, to embed music and movement more deeply into our programs. This partnership enriches our curriculum with fun, educational, and interactive activities inspired by The Wiggles’ music, making learning feel natural and exciting for every child.

With the inspiration of The Wiggles, we’re proud to bring the magic of music into every child’s day.
