At Young Academics, we prepare children for the next stage of their learning journey through a purposeful school readiness program embedded in our Transition to School Program (3-5 years). We focus on developing key school readiness skills independence, confidence, communication, social awareness, and problem-solving through engaging, play-based school readiness activities.
Our educators use a dedicated school readiness checklist to track every child’s progress across developmental areas, ensuring a smooth, confident transition to formal schooling. In other words, we answer the question “what is school readiness in early childhood education” by combining emotional, social, cognitive, and physical growth in one holistic framework.
What Is School Readiness in Early Childhood Education?
School readiness isn’t about ridged learning or early academics, it’s about nurturing the skills and attitudes that allow children to thrive when they start school. In early childhood education, school readiness includes:
- Confidence and emotional regulation
- The ability to communicate and cooperate with peers and educators
- Fine and gross motor skills
- Early literacy and numeracy foundations
- Independence and self-help abilities
- A curious, resilient approach to learning
Inside the Young Academics School Readiness Program
Our Transition to School Program is a comprehensive school readiness program designed for children aged three to five. It aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and National Quality Framework (NQF), ensuring children develop essential skills across all learning domains.
The Program Focuses On:
- Cognitive Development – Strengthening pre-literacy, pre-numeracy, and problem-solving through storytelling, phonics games, and pattern recognition.
- Social and Emotional Growth – Building teamwork, empathy, and resilience through collaborative play and group discussions.
- Physical Readiness – Enhancing coordination, control, and confidence through outdoor play, fine motor activities, and movement games.
- Independence & Responsibility – Encouraging children to manage belongings, self-serve meals, and follow routines confidently.
- Communication Skills – Expanding vocabulary, expressive language, and listening skills through music, conversation, and storytelling.
Our curriculum is intentionally play-based and hands-on, encouraging curiosity and discovery while developing the focus and adaptability needed for a school environment.
School Readiness Activities: Learning Through Play
Each day, children participate in carefully designed school readiness activities that connect learning with real-world experiences. Examples include:
- STEM Exploration: Science experiments, building, and investigating “why” and “how” things work.
- Creative Expression: Music, art, and drama to build confidence and imagination.
- Mini Mathematicians: Sorting, counting, measuring, and pattern games.
- Social Play: Team tasks, role-play, and problem-solving challenges that foster cooperation.
- Life Skills: Organising personal items, setting up meal spaces, and practicing turn-taking.
These experiences make learning joyful and natural, helping children transition seamlessly to structured classroom settings.
The Young Academics Difference
By the time children graduate from Young Academics, they have:
- The confidence to try new things
