Easy at-home fun: Painting

Youngacademics, 05 Aug 2021

There are many benefits of painting for children, including sensory development, colour learning, fine motor development, sparking creativity, openly expressing emotions and building self-esteem.

Painting is also a great activity to help teach concepts like shapes and letters in a fun and engaging way. While painting is a great learning opportunity for toddlers, it is also an easy craft for preschoolers, encouraging the whole family to get involved.

If you do not paint readily available at home, here is an easy, edible recipe for you to have. Instead of paintbrushes, you can also use your fingers, sticks, a sponge, toothpicks, a plastic fork, cotton tips, or even an old toothbrush.

Making D.I.Y. Paint

You'll need:

  • 1 tbs cornflour

  • 1 tbs cold water

  • 1 cup boiling water

  • food colouring

All you have to do is mix the cornflour and cold water together until creamy. Add the boiling water and stir until thick. Divide into small disposable containers and add a few drops of selected food colouring to each one. Then, you're all done! Don't forget to upload your creation to social media and tag #youngacademics.com.au. We can't wait to see what fun coloured paint you have created.
