From May 2025, the NSW Department of Education will begin proactively assessing early learning services across the state through its Child Safety Regulatory Priority Program, a welcomed step towards stronger transparency and accountability in early childhood education.
What’s Changing?
The upcoming program means the Department will now prioritise checks and visits based on how services demonstrate child safety in their everyday practice. It puts a spotlight on:
- How children’s safety and wellbeing are promoted
- How physical and emotional safety is maintained
- Whether services are compliant with the National Quality Framework and child protection obligations
In other words, it places child safety front and centre, just as it should be.
