At-home fun: Homemade Volcanoes

A baking soda and vinegar experiment is an all-time classic science experiment that always seems to excite and fascinate. It is an exciting, educational pastime for a day at home when looking for a fun way to entertain children, while also teaching them. Your curious little scientists will love the colourful, bubbling eruptions that result when baking soda and vinegar are -combined.

You'll need:

  • Baking soda (about half a cup)

  • Vinegar (about 400mL)

  • Food colouring

Instructions:

  1. Pour baking soda into a bowl, bottle or cup. Add half a cup of water and stir.

  2. When ready, add vinegar and watch the chemical reaction.

  3. For extra fun, add some food colouring to the mixture to watch the colour combine.
