The Lifestyle Dietitian Recipe of the Month: Chia Berry Bites

Serves: 4

Not only are these Chia Berry Bites perfect for a sunny day, but they also offer a tasty fibre boost for a happy gut. Chia seeds are the star ingredient in this summer treat. These tiny seeds are packed full of healthy fats and a magnificent 10g of fibre per serving of this recipe, perfect for helping kids meet their fibre requirements. Keep these easy-to-make bites in your freezer when your family needs a nutrient boost.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup milk (unsweetened plant milk/regular milk)
  • 1 cup of berries
  • 2 tbsp of chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp honey (optional – see safety tip*)
  • Molds of your choice
Method
  1. In a blender, add your berry of choice, milk, chia seeds, and honey (if using). Blend until smooth.
  2. Fill your molds with your mixture and freeze overnight.

Tips:

  • If choosing plant-based milk, be sure to select one fortified with at least 120mg calcium per 100mL. Not sure how? Use The Lifestyle Dietitan’s Plant-Based Milk Guide.
  • To make different coloured bites, select berries with different colours. Blend milk, chia seeds and honey first before dividing the mixture and blending the different coloured berries separately.

Safety Tip: Honey is not safe for children under 12 months of age.
